HKIAS Senior Fellow Professor Jihong Yu elected Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and received the 2021 Science and Technology Progress Award

Professor Jihong Yu, HKIAS Senior Fellow and a Professor at the Jilin University, was elected a Foreign Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences to the Class of Chemistry, and was honoured the Science and Technology Progress Award by the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation, in recognition of her contributions to science and chemistry. The presentation ceremony will be held in October 2021.

Professor Yu’s main research interest is in the designed synthesis and application of zeolitic nanoporous materials in catalysis, separation and other emerging fields. She was the recipient of numerous awards, including National Model Teacher, IUPAC Distinguished Women in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering Award, National Key Talent Project, Young and Middle Aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions, National High-Level Talents Special Support Plan, National Prize for Natural Science (II), the 10th China Youth Science and Technology Award, etc. Besides, Professor Yu is the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of the World Academy of Sciences, and Foreign Member of Academia Europaea.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences was founded in 1739 and is an independent organisation, whose overall objective is to promote the sciences and strengthen their influence in society. The Academy has around 460 Swedish and 175 foreign members. The Academy's members are divided into ten scientific disciplines, called classes. Being elected a member of the Academy constitutes exclusive recognition of successful achievements.

Established in 1994, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is a Hong Kong-based non-government organisation which annually bestows prizes upon Chinese scientists.
